4-H leaders are honored
Award recipients 4-H leaders were honored at a recent awards banquet. Among those receiving awards were (l to r): Kevin Robeson and Rita Paul, Outstanding 4-H Alumni; Sara Hoffman, Doris Peterson Award as Outstanding 4-H Leader; and Scott Wagoner, John Peterson Award as the Outstanding 4-H Exhibit Board Member. Photo provided Sara Hoffman was awarded the Doris Peterson Outstanding 4-H Leader Award at the 61st Annual 4-H Leaders' Banquet. She was selected by her fellow leaders in Carroll County for her dedication to the 4-H program. She has been the Mini 4-H Project Leader and a leader for the Monroe Achievers for the past 18 years.
Other special awards presented included the John Peterson and the 4-H Alumni. Scott Wagoner was selected by the 4-H Exhibit Association to receive the John Peterson Award, given to an outstanding 4-H Exhibit Board member who unselfishly goes above and beyond the call of duty in their support of the 4-H program and the county fair. Wagoner was on the auction, building, finance, general projects and vision committees. He has agreed to be the treasurer in 2009.
This year the Exhibit Board selected two outstanding Carroll County 4-H alumni who support the 4-H program throughout the year. Rita Paul has served on the Exhibit Board for two years and served as the board's first vice president. She was in charge of coordinating animal shows and the auction. She also served on the awards and policy committees.
Another 4-H alumnus honored was Kevin Robeson, who has served on the Exhibit Board for the past five years. He served two years as president.
Certificates and year pins were presented to the following club leaders:
First year - Dave Combs, Michelle Edwards, Lauren Gaines, Laurie Linback, Laurie Kender, Karen Martin and Jana Rouhier.
Five year - Andrew Garrison.
Ten year - Chris Chastain. Fifteen year - Carol Wilson.
Thirty year - Tim Burke.
Project Leaders receiving certificates and year pins were:
First year - Becky Baxter, Justin Darling, Karen Martin, Roger Mays, Jill Moudy, Kathi O'Farrell and Tony Rudd.
Five year - Jack Begley, Michelle Keck, Eric Mellinger, Jodi Mellinger, Joel Redmon, Lora Spitznagle and Denice Weis.
Ten year - Dale Snipes.
Fifteen year - Margie Haley and Rob Wilson.
Roberta Crabtree, 4-H Youth Educator from Tippecanoe County, was guest speaker. Her presentation was entitled, "Discovering Your Treasures…When Having Fun in 4-H." She included some "hands-on" games and mixer ideas that can be used in club meetings or project workshops to promote meeting others and learning.
