Panic struck many Delphi residents Friday when the fear of running out of water in city wells appeared to be a reality. But well levels were not the problem this time and residents are enjoying city water services once again. Broken pipes were determined to be the problem and repaired the same day.

The retirement of three long-time educators was announced at the Delphi Community School Board meeting.

Retiring are Steve Carroll, principal of Hillcrest Elementary School; Linda Carroll, Gifted and Talented coordinator; and Connie Hoffman, Hillcrest first grad teacher, all effective at the end of the current year.

25 YEARS AGO

Distribution of $4,036,777.80 for the December settlement, the final tax settlement in 1983, has been made to the various governmental units in Carroll County.

Barb Clawson, owner of Mode O'Day in Delphi announced she will close her business January 31.

Mrs. Clawson purchased her woman's apparel shop from Mary Wolverton in 1974. Mode O'Day has been in Delphi over twenty years.

Ruth Ann Ayres, corporation treasurer for the Carroll Consolidated School Corp., received a plaque for being named Flora area "Employee of the Year" by the Flora Rotary Club. The award was based on length of time employed, loyalty to the firm, display of ability on the job, and service and involvement in community organizations. Mrs. Ayres has the longest continuous employment record of any employee within the school corporation. She became a school secretary at Flora High School I 1956 and was named corporation treasurer/bookkeeper in 1964.

50 YEARS AGO

L.M. and John Chittick, of Flora, have been appointed as the Carroll county dealer for Ford tractors and implements.

Ross Briggs, of Flora, has been named manager. The sales room is located just west of Flora on State Road 18. The firm will be Chittick Ford Tractor, Inc.

75 YEARS AGO

2,443 passenger car licenses have been sold to date. This is about the average sold in Carroll county so that most of them have been obtained already.

The four way tourney which was to be held at Flora this week end has been cancelled, it is understood. Teams which had planned to participate were Flora, Camden, Cutler and Michigantown. It is understood that Michigantown first withdrew from the tournament and with difficulties between Camden and Cutler growing out of their basket ball game earlier in this season it was thought best not to have the tourney.

100 YEARS AGO

The jury in the case of the State of Indiana vs. George XX, of Adams township, on charge of assault and battery with intent to kill, after several hours deliberation returned with a verdict for the state, XX being fined $1 and costs.

There will be a public sale of horses, cattle and other stock held at Flora, Saturday, Feb. 13, 1909. All parties desiring to list stock in this sale will report the same to W.A. Pruitt, E.E. Eikenberry or Chas. Eikenberry on or before Feb. 1, so it may be advertised more thoroughly.
