Jack B. Hancook
Jack B. Hancook, 83, of Delphi died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at his home. He had battled colon cancer since November 2003.
Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Kokomo, he was the son of the late Clarence and Hazel Bourne Hancook. His marriage was on Oct. 4, 1946, in Kokomo, to N. Jane Winslow, who survives.
Mr. Hancook graduated from Kokomo High School in January 1944 so he could enter World War II in March.
He was in the U.S. Army Air Force stationed in the European Theater as a radar mechanic. After the war, he volunteered in the Merchant Marines as a radar technician.
Mr. Hancook worked for the former Gerber Globe Valve Corporation in Delphi as the general plant superintendent for 41 years, retiring in 1988.
He previously worked at Standard Pottery, which was a Gerber plant, in Kokomo for nine years, working a combined total of 50 years for the company.
Mr. Hancook also worked as a tool and die apprentice for Toni Lee Brass Company in Kokomo.
He worked for Clawson Appliances in Delphi in his retirement. He had a small machine shop and was a certified locksmith.
Mr. Hancook had been a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church since 1951. He was a lifetime member of the Delphi Masonic Lodge and the Delphi American Legion Post #75.
He enjoyed photography, meteorology and his dogs.
He was a great family man, loved his wife, son and daughter and extended family very much.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Hancook- Beeler of Indianapolis; a son, Steven Hancook (wife: Cathy) of Battle Ground; a grandson, Jeff Bush (wife: Jessica); a great-granddaughter, Jaclyn M. Bush; and a great-grandson, Nicholas P. Bush.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles, and a daughter-in-law, Ann Hancook.
Services were held Jan. 8 at the Delphi United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Ladd officiated. Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.
Memorials may be made to the Delphi United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, Serenity Hospice or Camp Tecumseh.
