Vern G. Myer, 89, of Monticello, died at 9:53 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, where he had been a patient for one day. He had been battling heart-related issues since October 2008.

Born Nov. 13, 1919, in Flora, he was the son of the late Charles and Blanch Clingenpeel Myer. He was a 1937 graduate of Carrollton High School. His marriage was on Oct. 16, 1965, in Delphi, to Kathryn Randle, who survives.

Mr. Myer farmed near Flora all of his life, did roofing and siding work for his nephews, Myer Roofing of Deer Creek, performed surveyor work, and most recently worked at the Kroger Grocery Store in Monticello for the past seven years.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church in Monticello.

Mr. Myer and his wife moved from Flora to Lake Freeman in 1987.

His hobbies were fishing, woodworking, painting, euchre card games, and lake activities.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra Kay Aldrich (husband: John) of Delphi and Linda Ann Waggoner (husband: Bill) of Kokomo; two grandchildren, Eric and Kim Isley; and two great-grandchildren, Ariel and Tristin Isley.

Preceding him in death were a son, Mark, and two brothers, Dana and Millard.

Services will be held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. The Rev. Dr. Ashli Cartwright- Peak will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
