ROD'S BARBER SHOP opened at 113 N. Main St. in Delphi on Dec. 10. Owned and operated by Battle Ground native Rod Lowry, the shop is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
Lowry Lowry said he kind of "fell" into the profession when he worked at the Ash Grove Elevator and fell off a silo in 1968. He decided he wanted a career change after that experience.
Lowry comes from a family of hair cutters and stylists. His mother, Doris, was a long-time hairdresser in Battle Ground throughout the 1960s and 70s. He began cutting hair in 1971 with his brother Jerry, who still has a shop in Delphi. Lowry cut hair in Brookston from 1979 to 2006 where he built a loyal clientele.
The newest barber in the city said he liked the small town atmosphere of Delphi. He said he worked in Lafayette for a short time but the larger town did not suit him.
"I've always felt respected here in Delphi," he said.
Lowry said he also sells electric heaters, movies and CDs in a room adjacent to the barber shop on Main St. He can be reached by telephone at (765) 427-0671 for appointments.
