Mann's 76 Pit Stop was the seen of a fire Thursday night.
The single story cement block building at the Junction of St. Rds. 29 and 22 housing Papa Louie's Restaurant and convenience store was destroyed.
Volunteer firemen from 10 departments were on the seen until after 8 a.m. Friday.
The state fire marshal was called to investigate the fire. Unofficial reports said the fire was accidental and originated in the cooking area.
Flora Town Council voted to proceed with plans to upgrade and improve the town's water system at the first meeting of the new year. The $1,552,000 project is expected to increase water bills by 63%.

Smith Construction Co., Inc. of Flora has received the Quality Pavement Award- Reconstruction City for 1983.
Meeting yesterday afternoon, the board of trustees of Carroll School Corporation approved a 7-period school day at Carroll Senior High School.
Mrs. Pat Duff of rural Delphi, a caterer, thought she was preparing food to serve at a wedding reception on Sat., only to find when she arrived at the Moose Lodge at Logansport that the "wedding reception" was really a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party for her and her husband Bob. Bob had been told to be at the "reception" to help clean up. So, the party was a surprise for him too!

Eleven families residing along a road in the South Delphi area met on Friday and made a New Year's resolution that they would combine forces to establish "Riley Road" as the official name of their highway. "Riley Road" follows the meandering of Deer Creek from the Prince William Road at the Robert Wood home, eastward to the John Walker home. It is an area where several new homes have been built and is regarded as a most favorable building site section. In the past it has generally been referred to as "Bluff Road". It is claimed to be the first road in Carroll county and a name signifying that fact as well as a significant Indian name were considered with others, but the secret voting strongly favored Riley Road".

Instead of being told that prosperity is just around the corner, we are now informed that it is right ahead of us. But as yet these better times have not come to many people. It has arrived for some, they are few and far between. Whether these better times are in store for us during the new year or whether it will be many more years before prosperity again arrives is still the question that is making the American people stop and think.
President Roosevelt has initiated many plans and many enterprises which he feels will bring back prosperity. Some of these have proved fairly successful while others have been lagging far behind in doing good.
100 YEARS AGO
Dr. J.N. Hurty proposes to make it a penal offense for one man to take a bite out of the chewing tobacco of another man. He cites as a basis for this legislation that the teeth often carry remnants of victuals, beverages and other things that are sporting ground for bacteria and that the borrowed chew may be an humble instrument of death. As the information comes from Hurty's office the bill will be so drafted that man may still borrow a chew of tobacco, but compels him to cut it off with a knife.
