J.P. Huddleston

J.P. "Pete" Huddleston, 70, a former long-time Delphi resident and oneyear resident of Lafayette, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at his residence. He had battled leukemia and other illnesses for the past nine years.
Born June 16, 1938, in Silver Point, Tenn., he was the son of the late Reuben E. and Beatrice Jones Huddleston. His marriage was on Oct. 30, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev., to Susan L. Burkhart, who survives.
Mr. Huddleston attended Logansport High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1955- 1959. He was an aerial photographer for the Air Force and received his GED while in service.
Mr. Huddleston worked for ALCOA in Lafayette for 37 years in the sheet metal fabrication department and in millwright maintenance before retiring in 2003.
He attended Christ United Methodist Church in Lafayette.
He was a member of the ALCOA 25-Year Club and helped organize club activities. He was also a member of the Logansport Eagles Lodge.
Mr. Huddleston enjoyed golf and played on the ALCOA and Eagles Lodge golf leagues.
He was involved with the Cass County billiards league and enjoyed playing pool.
Mr. Huddleston was an avid fisherman, enjoyed reading, traveling, family vacations, and his dog.
He dearly loved and cherished his wife, son, daughters, grandchildren and his extended family.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Michelle Webb (husband: Derrick) of West Lafayette and Jennifer L. Stonebraker of Lafayette; one son, Jeff W. Huddleston of Monticello; a brother, Glen Huddleston (wife: Agnes) of Logansport; a sister, Shirley Storey of San Diego, Calif.; a stepson, Ed Elkins (wife: Angie) of Leesburg; a stepdaughter, Marilee Gates (husband: Eric) of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his former wife, Ginger B. Huddleston.
Preceding him in death were five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 S. 18th St. in Lafayette. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Scott Mann will officiate. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery in Burnettsville.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and to Christ United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes are available at the church.
