Canal guard lock drawing
2009-01-07 / Community
Canal volunteers are working on a new exhibit - a replica of a canal guard lock. Cut stone blocks will be used to form the walls of the lock chamber, and a single set of gates will be constructed out of massive timbers. The lock will be similar to the historic lock at Paragon, north of Delphi, that once protected the canal from a flooding Wabash River. The replica lock will be located at the far end of Canal Park, next to the old Monon Railroad. Preliminary work on the lock is being done in Ed Gruber's barn, west of Delphi. Anyone who would like to volunteer or who would care to loan special wood tools for making mortise and tenon joints can call Dan McCain at 765-412-3208.
