Thanks to the accuracy of the Doplar radar, Carroll County residents were sufficiently warned about the snow storm which began with a vengeance Jan. 1.

Grocery shelves were emptied of bread, milk and meat by Friday evening and people were snuggling down for a "long winter's nap." Blizzard conditions kept people off the roads and indoors all day Saturday, and most church services in the county were canceled Sunday.

Brian Stirm, Delphi Municipal Airport manager reported a total of 12-14 inches of snow had fallen from Friday night to Monday afternoon. Temperatures plummeted to 20 degrees below zero by Tuesday morning.

Amanda Roth, a resident of the Brethren's Home, will observe her 108th birthday Saturday. She formally resided in the Camden area and worked as a bookkeeper at the Camden bank.

An organized group of 100 county residents met Carroll County Commissioners - Byron A. Jervis, Junior Maxwell and Lee Reppert - Tuesday morning at their first regular session of 1984 to voice their discontent with the county's snow removal efforts.

The window at the Rev. Rankin home had a very special glow for passers-by one recent evening. A very large candle had been placed in the window but somehow it fell, set fire to the decorative material at its base and the nearby cold air register was rapidly being consumed, providing a glow just a bit too cheery even to be coming from a preacher's window. Mrs. Rankin, at home alone, discovered the blaze, rescued her draperies, formed her own one-woman bucket brigade and extinguished the flame.

The year's at the turning and Tom MaCurdy's turning over a new leaf-in a brand new diary. A long-time keeper of a daily journal, Tom has neatly recorded his days for years.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barnard, of Camden, are parents of a son.

John W. Vetter has moved in from Pyrmont and opened a tin shop in the new building made for him by S.R. Pence on his corner lot. Mr. Vetter is well known among us as a fine man and an honest worker. He wants your work and is entitled to it. He is now a permanent resident, and as such we ought all to help him to get all the work he can do. He resides in the Hughes house, near the Brethren church.
