John Chorrushi and his wife, Rachel, of Delphi are now $2 million dollars richer thanks to the newest Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off game, Poker Showdown. Chorrushi picked the new game because Delphi Discount Tobacco was out of his favorite Scratch-off, Dazzling Diamonds.
Semi-regular customer, Chorrushi, walked back into Delphi Discount Tobacco and told store manager Tim Humphrey he would get a bonus. When asked if he hit anything worthwhile, Chorrushi replied he thought he hit the big one and asked Humphrey if it was what he thought it was. Chorrushi showed the ticket, but did not let go. Humphrey could not verify one way or the other, so Chorrushi jumped in his truck and headed for Indianapolis.
"This is my new favorite," said Chorrushi, who purchased two $2,000,000 Poker Showdown tickets for $30 each.
The Chorrushis don't have any plans for their prize yet. "We still need to sort everything out," he said.
Humphrey has been the manager at Delphi Discount Tobacco for a little more than three years.
"I was shocked and surprised!" said Humphrey about Chorrushi's good fortune. "The smaller winners do not get as much publicity as a million dollar winner, so I was very happy to see a familiar face win."
Humphrey wants the public to know the store sells more than just fuel, tobacco and lottery tickets. It is a 24- hour, seven day-a-week convenience store.
"People may not know they can come in the middle of the night and buy a gallon of milk." If people were not familiar with the store before, they will be now.
Even though Chorrushi won big, Humphrey wants to remind everyone to, "please play responsibly."
