Wray new commander of VFW
"It will take big shoes to fill what Butch did here," Wray said. "I hope I'm the man with those shoes." Wray lives in the house in which he was raised, located just behind the post. He has been there his entire life except for a period he moved away to help his father when the elder Wray was ill. Wray recalled how his dad helped the organization, mowing the lawn and offering his garage and tools when needed. "We were sort of the tool shed for the VFW when I was growing up," he recalled. "I still mowed the lawn until last year." Wray is also a member of AmVets and Moose, Elks and Eagles lodges. He said he enjoys reading and has visited the Delphi Public Library regularly since he was in middle school. As commander, Wray said he planned to change the food menu some and adjust some event dates to coincide with more favorable weather. All in all, though, he concluded, the post was run well and he hoped to continue that tradition. "I think it's going to be a good year," he said. "I hope to help the club become more active." |
