Myrtle Florence Bell Myrtle Florence "Tommy" Bell, 100, died at Woodbridge Health Campus, Logansport, at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Born Aug. 12, 1907, in Burlington Township, Carroll County, she was the daughter of Lewis Lee and Carrie Etter Thomas. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1925 and from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Charles E. McDowell, who died Sept. 5, 1950. She married Ancil Bell on Sept. 30, 1956, and he died March 14, 1980. Mrs. Bell was employed at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Chase Manor Nursing Home and for Dr. Hochalter, all in Logansport. She retired in 1972. She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Florence Nightingale Nursing Association, and a 50-year member of the Russiaville Order of the Eastern Star #130. She enjoyed traveling and reading poetry. Surviving are two sisters, Edna Trueb of Logansport and Laura Agness Hanson of Kokomo; three nieces and seven nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a nephew. Funeral service was held Monday afternoon at Neptune Funeral Home, Burlington. Pastor Bonnie Shoaf officiated and burial was at Ball Hill Cemetery near Cutler. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Hospital Foundation in care of Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. |
