Richard Canen

Richard Canen, 80, a resident of the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, formerly of Wakarusa, died at 7:23 a.m. May 9, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

Born March 2, 1928, in Elkhart County, he was the son of Alpha and Grace Blocher Canen.

Mr. Canen had worked in banking and insurance.

He attended Olive Mennonite Church in Elkhart County.

Surviving are three sons, Tim Canen (wife: Beth) of Camden, Jeff Canen (wife: Kim) of Monticello, and Gary Canen (wife: Debbie) of Santa Claus; a daughter, Nancy McCracken (husband: Shawn) of Chalmers; three sisters, Chloe Canen of Wakarusa, Edna Schrock of Phoenix, Ariz., and Josephine BeMiller (husband: Robert) of Tucson, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Rieth- Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home in Wakarusa. Burial will be in Olive (West) Cemetery.
