Camden Preservation Society announces award winners Camden Community Preservation Society met for dinner on April 28 at the Flora Family Restaurant. The Community Pride and Camden Humanitarian awards were presented. Both are given annually and include the Town of Camden and Jackson Township. The Community Pride Award is given to an individual or business that has gone out of its way to improve the appearance of either its personal property or its community place of business. This year the award was presented to Gary and Kelly Robey, who have renovated the exterior of the Camden Auto Company. The Robeys are continuing to work on the interior. "Camden is so excited to have both the renovation and the charming people within their community," said Preservation member Barb McCain. The Camden Humanitarian Award is presented to an individual, who unselfishly works either behind the scenes or on public projects without ever expecting self-serving recognition. Pete Wagoner, Camden Town Council president, received the award for his leadership within the community and his determination and extensive research in his effort to have the Camden Elementary School remain in Camden. McCain presented a written memorial tribute in honor of Jacquelyn Frye, Junior Beamer and Evelyn Sharp, all devoted society members who died during the past year. Congratulations were extended to Jeff Sieber and the 175th Steering Committee for a grand celebration last summer in Camden. Preservation members were recognized and complimented on their contributions to the Camden Heritage Luncheon and the Architectural Tour, both held during the celebration. |
