Letter carriers to conduct annual food drive
Comet staff report

Letter carriers in Carroll County will join their counterparts nationwide to help stamp out hunger by collecting nonperishable food items on Saturday during the 16th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive. Items donated during the largest annual one-day food drive in the nation are then delivered to local community food banks, pantries and shelters across the country.

The U.S. Postal Service has partnered with the NALC in this effort since 1993. The "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive has collected over three-quarters of a billion pounds of food for community food banks and pantries nation-wide.

"The Carroll County Postmasters are proud to support our nation's letter carriers," said Flora Postmaster Melinda Luttrell. "We also appreciate the generosity of our customers who enable our employees to collect food to replenish community food banks and feed those in need."

Customers are asked to place non-perishable food items next to their mailbox before their letter carrier delivers the mail on the day of the drive. Postal employees do the rest, taking the food to the Post Office where it is sorted and delivered to an area food bank or pantry.
