William Shaffer

William "Bill" Shaffer, 92, of New Castle, died April 26, 2008, in Glen Oaks Health Campus following a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Delphi to Larry R. and Ethel L. Griffith Shaffer.

He worked on the family farm until entering World War II, where he served in the United States Army during two oversees tours of duty in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.

He retired from the Excise State Police in 1965.

Mr. Shaffer was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife and son, Kevin Shaffer (wife: Jacqueline), all of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mary Shaffer of Delphi and Ruth Smith of Monticello.

A memorial service was held April 29 at Sproles Family Funeral Home.
