Shirley Sterrett is Delphi's first full-time woman mail carrier. She also brings another first to her job. She drives an official postal car, with the steering wheel on the right hand side and a large tray on the left side. Sterrett believes this is the first right hand drive postal car in the county. She purchased the car herself, so it's the one she drives all the time. For delivering the mail, she said her car is much more comfortable than riding in the middle of a regular car, which most carriers do. It's a little tricky at drive through windows, though. She said once at a bank window, when there were no other cars in line, she backed up to the window and announced, "I always do everything backwards."

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martin of Delphi will soon open Deer Creek Falls Campgrounds just one-half mile south on SR 25 from the Junction of Highways 421-25-18 at the west edge of Delphi. According to Martin, the 3-acre lake being stocked here with 1,000 lbs. Of channel catfish by an Osgood hatchery will provide excellent blue gill and small mouth bass fishing. A 10-acre primitive campground surrounds the lake.

The first portable classroom left Carroll High School for its new place of residence in Delphi. The classrooms were purchased by Underhill Industries were transported to their temporary location near Hooks in Delphi by bill and Tom Helvie of Flora.

Mushroom stories will have to make way this week for the fish story about four local men who went out in a boat in Deer Creek a few nights ago. The fish were so thickly populated on a ripple that the men (the first accidentally) jumped out of the boat and caught the fish without aid of the usual equipment. One man used a flash light to trace down a particularly large one (they were all large, of course) - and caught him too. Greatest concern of the fishermen was fear of injury caused by the numerous fish hitting against their legs. They claim they have fish in refrigeration to prove their story.

When Purdue University recommended the re-appointment of Ralph Maggart as Carroll county agent at a salary of $2050 annually to the County Board of Education it develops the recommendation was for a period of two years instead of one as given out in the Journal in our last issue.

It also develops that Carroll county tax payers will pay the regular salary of $1500 annually, what the law prescribes, the state $850 and the Federal government $400, a total of $2750. The additional six cents per mile traveled for the first 300 miles to be paid by the county has been eliminated.

As summer approaches, the spirit of camping is irresistible.

The question comes in reference to what kind of an experience is most worthwhile for boys and girls. After years of study and experience, Camp Tecumseh presents the answer.
