Camp Tecumseh YMCA Day Camp looks to 35th year
Comet staff report

The Black Hole…The Wolves' Den…The Blob…Mt. Wood!

These are not some distant places, or out-of-this-world destinations. These are some of the activities that Day Campers get to experience at Camp Tecumseh YMCA.

For seven weeks this summer Camp Tecumseh will once again offer Day Camp for children ages 5-12.

After starting 35 years ago with 32 youngsters, Camp Tecumseh welcomed over 1,000 young people from White, Carroll and Tippecanoe counties last summer. Here is what some of them had to say:

"A great adventure!" said one 11-year-old.

"Great, fun counselors- lots of activities" said another seven-yearold.

"I can't say enough good things about what a fantastic place Camp T is!" said the mother of a sevenyear old.

With themes ranging from Pirates of Tecumseh to Wild West to Day of the Dinosaur, campers will grow and learn through activities such as swimming, creative arts and crafts, healthy hiking, playing games, singing songs and visiting animals on the mini farm. Each camper also gets to go on a horseback ride every week.

Camp counselors are trained to help youngsters make friends and to become more independent. Camp promotes caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith, said Joel Sieplinga, Day Camp director.

Transportation is offered to and from selected Carroll and White county locations on alternating weeks. Many parents choose to drive their children to camp each day so they can meet the counselors personally. Seven weeks of Day Camp at Camp Tecumseh starts June 16 and runs Monday through Friday. Some financial assistance is available for those in need.
