County leaders being 'arrested' to benefit MDA
Comet staff report

The citizens of Carroll County are being accused of "having a big heart for Jerry's kids." They are volunteering to go behind bars in an effort to raise money for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The MDA Lock-Up will be held on May 8 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Center in Delphi from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Several local businesses are supporting the event, with "jailbird" transportation provided by Dick Krieg Automotive and jailhouse food by Stone House Restaurant and Starbucks.

MDA is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to conquering more than 40 neuromuscular diseases that affect a million Americans of all ages. These local heroes will be dedicating an hour of their time and efforts to finding a cure and giving hope to citizens with Muscular Dystrophy.

Money raised in local districts stays in local districts. MDA disburses its funds through local districts so that local patients in every city are receiving the funding provided by local community leaders.

The funds raised will provide the following for patients in Carroll County:

$2,000 for a purchase of a wheelchair or leg braces

$500 for repairs to equipment

$25 for a flu shot

$85 for 1 minute of research provided at Ball State University & IU

1 support group session totaling $100

Clinic visits to local hospitals

Sending any eligible child to summer camp ages 6-21: $800
