Wading for clues
Delphi Community High School Agriculture students check for erosion along Deer Creek at Riley Park in Delphi as part of Rivers and Streams Field Day held last week. DCHS Agriculture teacher Ross Striebeck said the event provided students the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while they studied local waterways. Made possible through funding from Carroll County Soil & Water Conservation District and area businesses, field day is held twice a year so students can track changes to the environment and check for water quality. Student Tyler Wise said data he and classmates collected would be uploaded to a computer program which will turn the information into graphs of the river. "We are measuring the erosion to see how floods affect river banks," Wise said. "By doing this we can estimate natural and man-made erosion. It's a good feeling when you're doing something good for the community." Photo provided
