Relay For Life to hold county sweep and cruise-in Friday
Comet staff report

Carroll County Relay For Life will be "Painting the Town" purple on Friday.

The goal of the Relay For Life Committee is to make a sweep of Delphi and Carroll County in asking for donations, sponsorships and encouraging companies and groups to form teams to walk and raise money in the annual event.

Friday will kick off with a launch of purple balloons at the Carroll County Courthouse in Delphi at 4 p.m. Anyone who can help is encouraged to meet there at 3:30 p.m. to assist in going to businesses to spread the word about what Relay For Life is doing.

After going business-tobusiness, the committee will host the 1st Annual Cruise-In on the Courthouse Square. Car registration will begin at 5 p.m. with judging and awards to be handed out at approximately 8. Music, entertainment, food and prizes will be available.

Relay For Life is an overnight fundraising event for the American Cancer Society that allows the community an opportunity to honor and support cancer survivors while learning more about how the disease is being fought through research, advocacy, education and patient services. It is the American Cancer Society's signature activity, and is the largest non-profit fundraising event in the world.

Carroll County's Relay event will be from 6 p.m. June 27 to 12 noon June 28 at the Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School track. Fundraising has already begun with teams committed to raising money and walking during the relay. This year's goal is to raise $35,000. Last year, the event brought in $29,000 with 21 teams.

Those interested in helping on Friday with the community sweep, the Cruise In or want someone to stop at their business, are asked to either show up at the courthouse at 3:30 p.m. or contact Sandy Chapin at 765-437-7235 or sandra.chapin@cancer.org for more information.
