Elmo J. Everett
He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Bringhurst, to Emmerson and Osie McGuire Everett. He attended school in Cutler. His marriage was to Freda I. Best in Delphi on Aug. 2, 1952, and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne in Kentucky. He was later stationed with the 38th infantry in Washington state, and was a military policeman his last three months of service. After his discharge, he served five years with the Army Reserves. Mr. Everett went to work for the Delphi Community School Corporation in 1959, He worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He spent five years in maintenance at Hillcrest Elementary, 19 years as maintenance supervisor for the school corporation, and six years as the buildings, grounds and transportation director. He also enjoyed caring for the school's football field. He was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon of the church, Sunday school secretary for many years, and formerly sang in the choir. Mr. Everett enjoyed yard work and playing church dart ball. He loved his grandchildren and their activities. Surviving are his wife in Delphi; two daughters, Debbie Herron (husband: Jeffery) and Allison Cocanower, all of Delphi; a son, Michael Everett (wife: Michele) of Camden; a sister, Norma G. Flora of Delphi; a half-brother, William Everett (wife: Janet) of Delphi; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and a greatgrandson. Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. Services were held Tuesday at Living Faith Church of the Brethren in Flora, and were officiated by the Rev. Jeff Tomson and the Rev. Andy Glass. Burial was at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana School for the Blind or Living Faith Church.
