Betty Lou Michaels
She was born March 23, 1924, in Lafayette, to the late Francis and Jennie Johanna Karlstrand Brown. Her marriage was to E.L. "Mike" Michaels in Frankfort on Jan. 21, 1956, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1986. A homemaker, Mrs. Michaels was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a member of the Lafayette Women's VFW Auxiliary and a former member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, where she was active with Sunday School. She also was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Pink Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Michaels was an avid reader. Her hobbies were crocheting and crossword puzzles. Surviving are two daughters, Madonna Kauffman (husband: Richard) of Lafayette and Jennifer Chase (husband: Kenneth) of Aiken, S.C.; three sisters, Deena Ramey of Knoxville, Tenn., Norma Trout (husband: William "Rudy") of Lafayette and Marilyn Jones (husband: Paul) of Kokomo; a brother, Alan Brown (wife: Sandy) of Brownsburg; four grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and a special friend, Hudson "Red" Pressler of Delphi. Mrs. Michaels was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and a grandson. Services were held Tuesday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi, and were officiated by the Rev. Nord Zootman. Burial was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
