Daugherty named squadron commander

Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Joette D. Daugherty has assumed command of the 954th Reserve Support Squadron, U.S. Transportation Command, at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill.

Her husband, Roger, is the son of Roger L. Daugherty Sr. of Flora and Jane A. Montgomery of Angola.

Prior to assuming her current position, the colonel served as the operations staff officer and deputy commander of the Air Force Reserve Element of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit of the U.S. Transportation Command.

Lt. Col. Daugherty entered active duty September 1989 and served more than six years before transferring into the active reserve program. She began her career in undergraduate missile training at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, Calif., then went on to be a missile combat crew deputy commander, a deputy trainer, and commander at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont.

She then transitioned into a civil engineer readiness flight commander, serving four years at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. On Sept. 11, 2001, she was called to duty to serve at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va., in support of Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom to direct Air Combat Command Civil Engineer deployment operations to Afghanistan.

In 2003 during the Operation Iraqi Freedom, she was mobilized to support Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command where she managed the largest reserve mobilization and demobilization effort since World War II.

In 2005, Daugherty joined the 954th and is scheduled for a deployment to Kuwait to support U.S. Transportation Command operations.

Her military awards and decorations include three awards of the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, two awards of the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Combat Readiness Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Serviceman Medal.
