Charles D. Kirk

Charles D. "Charlie" Kirk, 74, of Delphi, passed away April 3, 2008, at 7:20 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been a patient there for one week.

Mr. Kirk was born Oct. 8, 1933 in Bloomington, to Shirley and Ruth Driscoll Kirk. His marriage was to Marjorie J. Masterson in Covington on June 16, 1958. She preceded him in death Jan. 9, 2004.

Mr. Kirk attended high school in Bloomfield. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1955. He worked for the former Globe Valve factory in Delphi for 26 years before retiring, and had previously worked at the former Duncan Electric in Lafayette for several years.

He was a member of the Monticello American Legion and Delphi VFW Post #9383.

Mr. Kirk's hobbies were bird watching and flower and vegetable gardening. He was also an avid fisherman. He enjoyed NASCAR and Indiana University sports.

Surviving are a daughter, Melody Raper (husband: Stephen) of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; two sons, Tim Kirk (wife: Pam) of Brookston and Gary Kirk (wife: Stephanie) of Monticello; a sister, Denise Jenson (husband: Charles) of Carmichael, Calif.; four brothers, Joe Kirk of Greenville, S.C., Dennis Driscoll (wife: Lilo) of Virginia Beach, Va., Mike Driscoll of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Driscoll (wife: Ann) of Maleton, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Services were held April 7 at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi, and were officiated by the Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds. Burial was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, with military rites by Delphi American Legion Post #75 and Delphi VFW Post 9383.
