A reading challenge to dye for
Delphi Community Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Tim Conner follows through on his part of a challenge with students. He said he would dye his hair pink if they attained 7,000 points in the Reading Counts program by the end of the school year. The students surpassed that target two days before spring break, so Conner honored the challenge when they returned to classes last week. As of April 4, his class had read 1,368 books, amounting to 20,873,084 words as part of this year's program. Delphi fifth-graders have read a total of 5,733 books so far this year. School-wide, students have read nearly 141 million words from about 34,000 books. Comet photo by Kevin Schnepp
