Boat taking shape
A full-scale, look-alike canal boat is being constructed at Canal Park. It is 70 feet long and 12 feet wide. Some of the features will be two platforms, two cabins, and a gangplank for entrance. This on-land boat is meant for exploring, and will have crawl space and hide and seek areas. A child's slide and rope ladder will allow exit over the side. The volunteer crew is constructing the boat from sketches made by canal museum designer Len Mysliwiec. They expect to have it completed by Memorial Day. Comet photo by Jennifer Archibald
Building a boat
Decking Canal volunteer workers are pictured putting the decking on the replica canal boat that will have a permanent location near the Canal Center in Delphi. It is being built as a large piece of playground equipment. Pictured are (left) Bill Draper, (center, front to back) Al Auffart, Don Smith, Gene Knight, and (right) Vernon Cripe. Roy Patrick, not pictured, also was working last Friday when the photo was taken. Comet photo by Jennifer Archibald
