Judy Berkshire, a spokesman for Neighbors for a Clean Environment, has confirmed that Top Sow has offered to sell its site for a confined feeding operation in Jackson Township to the Neighbors group. She said her group is attempting to put together a price for the 76-acre site, located at CRs 200W and 300N. The Delphi City council met to discuss the development of the Delphi Commercial Park. The property is situated on SR 421, next to Auto Express Car Wash. There are many interested parties including retail stores, a hardware/ lumber store, motel, convenience store, grocery store, fast food chain and discount retail store. Along with the retail space much needed office and warehouse space is also in the plan. 25 YEARS AGO Carroll County's Highway Garage was completed in 1948. During the past two weeks it has undergone a major change, the addition of 1,317 feet of 6-foot, 9- guage fence around the entire facility located at Flora. The cost was approximately $9,800, according to the Carroll County Commissioners who said that the decision was made to enclose the area for three reasons: 1. Safety, especially where children are involved. 2. To prevent vandalism and items coming up missing and, 3. Because of liability. Kendall Fisher, an eighth grader at Delphi Community Middle School, is the winner of the Spelling Bee contest for the Delphi Community School Corporation. He was also the 1982 Delphi Community Middle School champion and will again represent the school at the regional spelling bee in Logansport. 50 YEARS AGO Dale and Donald Myers, both serve as musicians in the U.S. Navy. The Senior class fish fry was Friday night. The girls peeled 350 pounds of potatoes, made slaw from 100 pounds of cabbage, and 250 pounds of fish had been purchased. All the 85 pies were consumed along with 13 cases of soft drinks and 700 cups of coffee. The $440.00 profit will be used for a trip the seniors plan to make about graduation time. 75 YEARS AGO The Welcome Inn Café of this city, three doors west of The Journal, under the management of Ida and Edgar Titlow, has suddenly embarked on a change of life, which now commands itself to a customer's delight. Lewis Thompson and George Draper, painters and wall paper hangers, have redecorated the room in an artistic manner, which makes the place inviting. Twenty-four hour service will be given the public and a fine soda fountain installed yesterday helps a great deal to do that very thing. They have a lot of pleasant help at all times and you will find the place is well named, Welcome Inn. 100 YEARS AGO According to the 1907 census there are in Carroll county 5,363 voters. The number of voters to each township follow: Adams, 227; Burlington, 420; Carrollton, 254; Clay, 277; Deer Creek, 1212; Democrat, 345; Jackson, 397; Jefferson, 291; Madison, 243, Monroe, 708; Tippecanoe, 263; Rock Creek, 386; Washington, 334. The new store of Caldwell & Bridge at Bringhurst is now open to the public. They have purchased a fine line of dry goods and shoes of the latest patterns and styles and handle all staple and fancy groceries.
They will conduct their store in the Carter & Craig building, it having been remodeled and fitted with the very latest furniture and fixtures. |
