Grissom Air Museum is open for season
Comet staff report

Spring is here and the Grissom Air Museum is open for the 2008 season. As the weather warms up come out for a stroll through the airpark and check out the museum's newest acquisitions, a top secret, supersonic D-21 drone, and a BA53 thermonuclear bomb.

Stand next to a safe training version of the most powerful weapon ever deployed by the United States inside the museum. This is the same bomb that was carried by the B-58 Hustlers stationed at Grissom during the 1960s. Tours of the D-21 are available Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. until the aircraft is displayed inside the museum.

Many activities are planned for the museum in 2008. The museum will kick off with the Veteran Lecture Series May 14. Too often the brave men and women who serve this country are taken for granted; this is an opportunity to hear their stories firsthand. The free evening lectures are open to the public and families are encouraged to attend. For more information on the lecture series call the museum or check out our website for details.

Free admission is offered on Memorial Day, May 26.

Parents will also get a break this summer. Kids are encouraged to spend quality time with mom and dad by bringing them out on Mother's or Father's Day and for free admission.

Car enthusiasts will once again have the rare opportunity to park with the planes during the 2008 Warbirds Cruise-in! The car show will be Aug. 2. Call or check Grissom's website for details.

Grissom Air Museum is located 15 miles north of Kokomo on US 31. The museum is currently open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Extended summer hours will begin Memorial Day. There is a nominal admission charge. Veterans, seniors, students and children six and under are free. Call (765) 689- 8011 or visit GrissomAirMuseum. com for more information.
