DAR Good Citizens are named
They are seniors Shane Michael Evans from Delphi Community High School and Kristen Arnett from Carroll Jr.- Sr. High School. Daughters of the American Revolution established the Good Citizen Award in 1934 to recognize and reward senior high school students who possess the qualities of good citizenship: Dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in home, school, and community. Each award is given on a merit basis, including completion of a questionnaire, essay, scholastic record, and a letter of recommendation. Shane Evans Shane is the son of Shawn and Shannon Evans of Delphi. He has been active in Boy Scouts and received his Eagle Scout award in December. He is a member of National Honor Society, was a delegate to Boys State, participated in Varsity Choir, and was an Indianapolis Colts Academic All-State recipient for football. Activities include Key Club member, Spanish Club member, varsity football, varsity wrestling, Battle of the Books, DARE representative, Math and Science Super Bowl, mentor, tutor, and team captain for the Rube Goldberg competition at Purd u e University. He also has participated in the following theatrical productions: "Don't Drink the Water," "The Match Maker," "MacBeth Did It," and "The Music Man."
Kristen Arnett Kristen is the daughter of Scott and Tamie Arnett of rural Cutler. She is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, and is in the Top 10 of her class. She was Junior Class president and head of the Prom Committee. She received the Rotary Citizenship Award and Todd Burman Memorial Award. Other activities include swimming, track, volleyball, and tennis. She plays piano and is a member of the school band and French Club. She is a 10- year 4-H member and has volunteered at the Burlington Community Library. Kristen plans to pursue a degree in business marketing. She would like to expand the family business in Burlington and stay in the community. |
