Voter registration deadline is Monday
Comet staff report

With less than a week remaining before the April 7 Voter Registration deadline in Indiana, Secretary of State Todd Rokita is reminding Hoosier voters to make sure they are registered to vote so that they can participate in the May 6 Primary Election.

"I want every eligible Hoosier to exercise his or her right to vote in the primary election," said Rokita, Indiana's Chief Election Officer. "In order to do that, Hoosier voters must make sure they are registered."

Voters who need to register for the first time must do so on or before April 7 for the May 6 Primary Election. Additionally, voters who have moved or changed their name must update their information by the same deadline.

Anyone not registered to vote may register in person at the county voter registration office, county clerk's office, or any Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branch. Voters may also mail in their registration form, available on Secretary Rokita's website at www.sos.IN.gov. Mailed in registration forms must be post-marked by the same April 7 deadline.

To be eligible to vote in Indiana the following criteria must be met:

• both a U.S. citizen and a resident of Indiana,

• at least 18 years of age at the next General Election, Nov. 4, 2008,

• not currently in prison after being convicted of a crime,

• have lived in the precinct where you vote for at least 30 days prior to the election, and you are registered to vote.
