Fourth grade students from Carroll and Delphi schools experienced a taste of rural life during Carroll County Ag Day held March 20 at the Delphi Armory. Part of National Ag Week, the annual event was designed to educate children about the many facets of agriculture.
Children were led through sessions including popcorn, soybeans, corn, small grains, backyard conservation, soil, water, watersheds, careers, ag marketing, farm safety, farm machinery, swine, beef, dairy, forestry, vegetables and poultry.
Participation by members of the newly-formed Carroll County Agriculture Association and representatives from some of the county's new dairy operations were features new to this year's event. Organizer Rhonda Hicks of Carroll County Soil & Water Conservation District said theirs and all others' involvement in the show made for another successful venture.
"We were excited to be able to include in this year's event the newly formed Carroll County Ag Association," she said. "We also worked with the new dairies coming to our area and appreciated their interest in community."

Hicks said the day of learning was beneficial to students.
"I do truly believe that this event is a wonderful service to our fourth grade students," she explained. "It is a great way for our ag community to come together and share in the wealth of knowledge that we have. Kids and adults all benefit from the day. I hope it to be an annual event that continues for many years to come."
