April starts off with a bang and a boom with "Fun Books with a Beat." Children's librarian Marcia Sledd has rhythm books, games songs to share for the story time theme for the week of April 1.

Celebrate National Library Week with a Family Fun Story Hour, April 15, 7 to 8 p.m. The special event is scheduled for Celebrate Books. Enjoy games and stories and spend a special evening with your children.

Faith Based Book Club selection for the month is "Magdalene" by Angela Hunt. The book draws readers back in time to experience the life of Mary Magdalene in this fascinating portrait of the former demoniac who was present at the cross with Jesus. The discussion begins at 9 a.m. Copies are available.

Steven Hill returns to the Coffee Beat April 26 with his easy-going style and Beatles and Eric Clapton cover tunes. Lafayette native Hill is working on a new CD which will include original work and classic rock. Music starts at 7 p.m. Coffee and music are free. Desserts are available for a nominal fee.

April is National Poetry Month. Established in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month brings together libraries, schools, booksellers and poets to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.

Celebrate Poetry Month at the library by calling Dial-A-Story. During April, fourth graders from Carroll Elementary School will read poems written by James Whitcomb Riley on Dial- A-Story. The first poem will begin this Friday. Cole Hickner, a student in Jenelle Gish's class, will read, "An Idiot." Each week Dial-A-Story, 574-967-3814, will feature a new reading.

Week one participants in the Get Fit, Flora! program learned about breakfast nutrition, moving more, and setting goals. Last week the fitness goals were increased, and the importance of stretching before exercise was discussed. The free support group meets Thursday evenings at 7:15 p.m., with weigh-in up to one half hour before the meeting. It's not too late for you to join us. What do you have to lose?

Welcome storytime back with the theme, "April Fool's Day!" You never know what will happen when dealing with this fun holiday. There will be stories to tickle your funny bone. Storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
