Four new members were inducted into the Carroll County Agriculture Hall of Fame.

The inductees were William Kerlin, Joan McCain, Steve Nichols, and Fred Wise.

A $100,000 grant will fund the construction of a Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi.

Delphi City Park board applied for the grant from the state's Wabash Heritage corridor Fund. The action group supporting the application through the park board was the Carroll County Wabash & Erie Canal, Inc.

The award comes from Department of Natural Resources funds.

The Camden Elementary carnival was Friday night. It netted $3,657 for the school.

25 YEARS AGO

Two 10-channel radios have been purchased by the Carroll County Commissioners. When the Comet checked, Two commissioners were to have the radios in their private cars. One commissioner refused the idea. It was pointed out by this newspaper's editor that it appeared such use was impractical and certainly not the choice of taxpayers who hoped all available monies would be used to upgrade Carroll County roads.

Tioga Bridge was closed indefinitely to all traffic Thursday afternoon for safety reasons after the structure was severely damaged in a morning automobile accident. It is believed that the 93-year old 300-foot bridge spanning upper Lake Freeman can be repaired a cost of several thousand dollars.

50 YEARS AGO

Captain Stubby and the Buccaneers, skilled entertainers of Chicago radio fame, will provide the program at the annual meeting of the members of the Carroll County Rural Electrification Membership Corporation.

More than one hundred people are enrolled in the weight control program that is presently being carried on in Carroll county. The program has been very enthusiastically accepted with an afternoon and evening class meeting each Tuesday. It is hoped that the class will meet on a monthly basis hereafter so that their weight control may be continued as a group.

75 YEARS AGO

Normal transaction of business without the use of large sums of currency or gold is the object of rules by which full banking operations were resumed Wednesday at approved federal banks and Class A state banks and trust companies (Union State Bank, Delphi and Flora State Bank, Flora were classified as Class A).

Here are some of the general rules under which clearing house and Class A state banks were operating today: You may write checks in payment of bills, rent, purchases of merchandise and for any purpose except to withdraw cash for hoarding.

Checks may be written on either new or old balances in checking accounts for any sum, but if you desire to withdraw more than $10 a day cash you must prove the necessity to bank officers and sign affidavits to the federal government that hoarding is not intended.

You may withdraw $10 a week in cash from your savings account.
