Easter Egg Hunt in Delphi to feature hat/bonnet parade
By Jenna Buehler Comet writer-intern
The lovable and charismatic Easter Bunny is coming soon to Carroll County. He is expected to arrive at the courthouse March 22 at 11 a.m. in anticipation of the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Carroll County and held in Delphi.

His arrival will signify the beginning of Easter and bring awareness to the National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

This year's Easter event will feature a hat and bonnet parade in addition to other child oriented activities such as face painting. Prizes will be awarded for the finest hats and bonnets. All participating youngsters under the age of eight are encouraged to wear their hat or bonnet and make the new Easter Egg Hunt feature a success.

The egg hunt offers a wide variety of prizes donated by local merchants. Prizes include Easter baskets, candy, toys and books. One plastic egg in each designated age group contains the chance to win the grand prize - a bicycle purchased by Prevent Child Abuse Carroll County.

This is the second year Prevent Child Abuse Carroll County has coordinated the Easter Egg Hunt and helped to bring awareness to child abuse and neglect by means of love cards, blue ribbons, pamphlets, and other prevention materials. According to event organizer Debbie Lowe, last year's frigid egg hunt experience suggested the need for an indoor location to get out of the cold and wind.

"We learned a lot last year when it was incredibly cold in April," Lowe said. "Because Easter is in March, we requested the use of the courthouse rotunda for some events, including the hat and bonnet parade, if it is too cold to troupe around the outside of the courthouse."

"The courthouse is a wonderful place to come, have fun and eat candy," she continued. "All of us working on this project encourage parents to bring digital cameras and take photos of their children with the Easter Bunny."

Lowe stressed the need for any interested volunteers to participate in the event.

"We could use any additional volunteers," she added. "It takes a lot of people to manage this event. We would invite any community group to participate with us through volunteers or with an activity."
