Lessons from the Heart
Times they are a changin'
By Pastor Todd Ladd

This week it happens again.

We will move our clocks forward an hour giving us an extra hour of light during the later part of our day. Some folks have trouble with this change and get confused over whether we move forward or back. I have even heard of a few folks who are tired the next day because they stayed up until 2 a.m. to change their clocks. You really don't have to do that you can actually just change your clock before you go to bed.

What I have learned about time however is not the change but that it continually marches forward. We notice that with our children and grandchildren. Almost universally every adult will say, "Don't those kids grow up so fast," or "It just seems like yesterday when they were learning to walk." Time is relentless in its progression. Whether we change our clocks or leave them the same, the reality is that time keeps moving forward.

We have a choice we can move forward with time or resist that move. When we hold back and try to keep it from progressing we fall into a tailspin of sadness and loss of hope. But when we stay in step with the progression of time we can find hope.

I believe the God that we worship is the God of time. During this Lenten season we have been moving forward towards Holy Week and the suffering and death of Christ while we have also been moving towards the resurrection of Easter. I believe that Jesus is the fullness of God in all time. That he is the pinnacle of time moving towards Him and away from Him. In Him is the completeness of time.

So this week we may move our clocks forward but when we do, we should be conscious of God who is the Lord of all time…….regardless of what the state tells us to do.

P.S. Take a nap on Sunday afternoon.
