Winter Sports Summaries DCMS out swims Carroll The battle for the county middle school swim championship, Delphi defeated Carroll 125-60. First place winners for Delphi were: Annie Mose, 200 and 400 freestyles; Ariel Beamer, 50 butterfly; Brandon Wilson, 100 freestyle; and Emily Layman, 100 backstroke. Delphi also won all three relays with the medley team of Zack Thomas, Megan Tenwinkel, Layman and Wilson, the 200 free team of Wilson, Kendall Baker, Thomas and Mose and the 400 freestyle team of Layman, Taylor Thompson, Jeremie Kauffman and Mose. For Carroll, Atkisson won the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke and Pencek won the 50 free and diving. At Frankfort, the DCMS swim team swam a boy-girl meet with the girls winning 94-82 and the boys losing 107-75. First places for the girls went to: Taylor Thompson, 200 and 400 freestyles; Taylor Saul, diving; Annie Mose, 100 freestyle; and Emily Layman, 100 backstroke. For the boys, first place winners were Brandon Wilson, 50 and 100 freestyles, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Zack Thomas, Cameron Burns, Grant Price and Wilson. Saturday at the Rensselaer Relays the DCMS swim team came up short of defending its crown. Twin Lakes edged Delphi for the win, 94-92. Delphi's 400 freestyle relay team of Annie Mose, Zack Thomas, Taylor Thompson and Brandon Wilson not only finished first, it set a meet record with a time of 4:38.19. The record was set last year by a Delphi team (Annie Mose, Abbey Mose, Payton Windell and Alex Price). Also placing first was the 400 backstroke relay team of Annie Mose, Shelbey Disinger, Zack Thomas and Emily Layman. Carroll 7th ends season this week The 7th grade Lady Cougars competed in the Clinton Central basketball tournament on Saturday. They lost their first game, but won the consolation game. Carroll started slow in the first game against Central Catholic, but outscored them in the second half. It still was not enough and the Cougars were defeated 36-27. Paige Spesard led the way with 13 points. In the consolation game the Cougars defeated Clinton Central 32-26. The Lady Cougars were down by one point after three quarters of play. A Carroll surge in the fourth quarter had the Cougars outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 17-10 for the win. Madison Welch led the way with 11 points, 9 were in the 4th quarter. The girls stand at 7 wins and 6 losses for the year with their final three games this week. Lynde, Back are conference champions Two members of the 7th and 8th grade Delphi Oracle wrestling team won conference championships at the WCJC held Saturday at Benton Central. Tanner Lwrestling at 140 pounds and Stephen Back at 115 remain undefeated, winning conference titles. Taking second place were Cody Miller (95 lbs.) and Landon Garrison (heavyweight). Third place winners were Adam Marvell (75 lbs.) and Caleb Alford. Fourth place finisher was Alonzo Berumen (145 lbs.), while Jarrod McCormick (130 lbs.) took fifth place, and Cody Alderman (125lbs.) and Chad Parish (135 lbs.) finished in sixth. Also participating were Austin Jones, Jordan Cree, Kaleb Salyer, and Cody Sattler. The Oracles took sixth place as a team. The sixth graders participated in the JV tournament in Frankfort. First place winners were Walker Alderman (75 lbs.) and Andrew Rowland (130 lbs.). Finishing in the top five were Peyton Wagoner (75 lbs.), Caleb Mctigue (110 lbs.), Andrew Taylor (132 lbs.), Matthew Randle (150 lbs.), Bryer Houston (160 lbs.), Tanner Dubes-Cripe (160 lbs.), and Colyn Campbell (160 lbs.). The DCMS team has a record of 15-3 and will finish the season this week with duals between Rossville and Benton Central. The season will end with a tournament at North Newton on Saturday. Carroll defeats 4 of 5 teams at Super 6 Carroll's Junior High went 4-1 on the day at Western's Super 6 Junior High Wrestling Tourney on Saturday. Team scores were: Carroll 98, Northwestern 24; Carroll 88, Lewis Cass 33; Carroll 86, Marion McCulloch 27; Carroll 64, Western 53; and Westfield 106, Carroll 15. Carroll had one wrestler, Brady Noonkester, go undefeated for the day. He wrestles in the 130-pound weight class. Going 4-1 were: Kreed Switzer, 70 lbs.; Zach Turnpaugh, 80 lbs.; Alex Switzer, 85 lbs.; Braydon Kitchel, 90 lbs.; Jake Walker, 115 lbs.; and Jacob Wilkinson, 135-lbs. Earning 3-2 records for the day were: Joey Grimes, 95 lbs.; Tallis Bowers, 100 lbs.; Anthony Pickett, 110 lbs.; Cole Liggett, 125 lbs.; Kameron Casto, 155 lbs.; Gunnar Meyer, 215 lbs.; and Evan Cable, heavyweight. Bradly Leonard at 75-lbs. was 3-1. Records of 2-3 went to Nick Gamel, 120 lbs., and Jordan Collins, 145 lbs., and 1-4 to Darion Wagoner, 105 lbs., Zak Willis, 140-lbs., and Tyler Powell, 171-lbs. |
