The fourth annual Battle of the Books began Feb. 12 with local competitions at Carroll and Delphi Community high schools.
The winning teams from those battles competed in the Bacon Bowl held at Carroll on Feb. 26. The Fab Elvis 5 X 2 team from Delphi defeated Carroll's The Legacy team with the score of 124-113.
The local and county contests consisted of 150 questions based on the ten books that each team read. These competitions involved about 270 students at the high school level.
Books for both sites were purchased from Gifted and Talented grants. Sponsors providing team shirts and prizes were Delphi and Flora Lions, Rotary and Psi Iota Xi, Delphi Tri Kappa, Flora-Monroe Public Library, Friends of Delphi Public Library, and Yoder's Stitching Line.
