Dola May Lowry

Dola May Lowry, 98, of Flora, passed away Feb. 18, 2008, at Milner Community Health Care Center in Rossville. She had been a patient there for two weeks.

She was born Nov. 5, 1909, in Jennings County, to Oliver G. and Iona Barnes Lewis.

She graduated from Lovett High School in 1927. In 1928 she married Porter A. Lowry. They moved to Prairie Twp. in Tipton County where they farmed for many years.

In 1989, Mrs. Lowry moved to Flora to be near her daughter. She was a member of the Flora First Christian Church and a former member of the Liberty Baptist Church. She loved to sing and she loved to laugh.

She is survived by a son, Don R. Lowry (wife: Nell Jean) of Sharpsville; a daughter, Glenda Oilar (husband: Richard) of Flora; a daughterin law, Norma Jean Lowry of Kokomo; two brothers, Marion Lewis of Florida and Herschel Lewis (wife: Virginia) of Lebanon; two sisters, Eva Wickes of Dayton and Alta Coplen of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Lowry (wife: Kim) of Kokomo, Mike Lowry (wife: Robin) of Fishers, Lisa Condit (husband: John) of Muncie, Lora Hart (husband: Steve) of Bloomington, Jill McCombs (husband: Dennis) of Baltimore, Md., Doug Lowry (wife: Penny) of Lawton, Okla., Kristine Lowry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cynthia Harmon (husband: Dan) of Flora, Suzan Overholser (husband: Rex) and Michelle Simmons (husband: Jeff), all of Bringhurst; 17 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and cousins and friends.

Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, a son, Russell A. Lowry, and a great-grandson, Kirt Kirkman.

Services were held Feb. 22 at the First Christian Church in Flora. Officiating were the Rev. Sam Davenport and the Rev. Ruth Lawson. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or Liberty Baptist Church.
