By Jennifer Archibald Staff writer

Carroll School Board had a short meeting preceded by a long work session on Feb. 19.

At the meeting, it was announced that teacher Katie Seward, board member Mike Eikenberry, and student Malena Zook have been added to the corporation technology committee.

Three facility use requests were approved. Flora Little League requested to use the gym or auxiliary gym for tryouts on Feb. 21 and 23. Carroll County REMC will use the high school cafeteria March 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a public meeting concerning the consolidation of the Carroll County and White County REMCs. The American Cancer Society will use the high school track June 27 and 28 for Carroll County Relay for Life.

The following conference requests were approved: Natalie McQuade, elementary assistant principal - 2008 Response to Intervention Summit: Developing Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy, Feb. 27 and 28 in Indianapolis. Pat Spence, yearbook advisor - Advisors' Spring Workshop, March 7 in Indianapolis. Katie Seward, assistant softball coach - ICGSA Conference, March 9 and 10 in Indianapolis.

Renee McIlrath, secretary at the elementary school, was granted a family medical leave.

The half-hour meeting was preceded by a five-hour work session. Discussion topics included capital projects and policy. One policy under consideration is a no-tolerance stand on alcohol-related offenses by school personnel and coaches. Superintendent John Sayers said the proposed policy will be further discussed before bringing it to a regular board meeting.

Sayers said specific projects talked about at the work session included remaining issues with the swimming pool refurbishing, softball field needs, the piping project at the high school, science area renovation, and plans outlined by the technology coordinator.

The next regular meeting will be March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Administration Building. The March 18 meeting will be in the afternoon at the high school, with students invited to attend. It will be followed by a board work session.
