Library The library is offering a Winter Reading Club for adults. "We have a 'winter mix' of good books for your reading enjoyment," said Shirley Schock, librarian. "To take part, we ask that you read two books a month." The club will last two months. It started Feb. 25 and will go through April 25. Patrons can sign up anytime. The theme for the club is "Winter Into Spring: There's Snow Better Time to Read." Delphi Public Evening Book Club will meet Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. to discuss the Jane Austen classic "Northanger Abbey." Singer songwriter Scott Greeson will perform at the Coffee Beat March 8 at 7 p.m. Greeson's music is best described as poetic snapshots of folks living in America's heartland. The coffee and music are free. Desserts are available for a nominal fee. Faith Based Book Club meets to discuss books which encourage exploration and probe topics of the Christian faith. The next meeting for the group is March 13 at 9 a.m. Patsy Scott will lead a discussion of "When Invisible Children Sing" by Dr. Chi Huang. For information call the library at (765) 564-2929. Spring book sale and membership party Spring Book Sale Preview for Friends of the Delphi Library members will be in the Gerber-Globe Valve Room March 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The public sale will be March 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Friends will host a membership party for new and current members to pay their 2008 dues both days. Those interested in becoming a new Friends member is encouraged to attend, meet fellow library lovers and supporters and pay dues at the special event. Volunteers are needed to help sort books prior to the sale and help during the sale. Contact Friends president Jayne Abbott at (765) 564-3739 to volunteer. Flora-Monroe Township Local artist Brenda Daly is offering a Portrait Drawing Class on the first two Mondays and last two Mondays in March, from 7- 8:30 p.m. There will be no class March 17. The class will focus on one piece of work, which may be of the student's choosing. A crisp clear photograph is advised as subject matter. This would be an opportunity to create a portrait of a family member. A materials list will be available at the library circulation desk, where you may also register. This spring, the Flora-Monroe Township Public Library, the American Library Association and Woman's Day magazine want to know how you have used the library to research or improve a family member's or your own health. From now until May 11, women over the age of 18 can submit their story in 700 words or less to womansday@ala.org. Four stories will be featured in the March 2009 issue of Woman's Day. A link on our website will take you to the official rules, www.flora.lib.in.us. Celebrate Dr. Seuss at the library during the next storytime! Read Across America is celebrated throughout the country on March 2 (Dr. Seuss's birthday.) To honor the good doctor and celebrate reading we will have classic Dr. Seuss stories and characters. Storytime is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Call Dial-a-Story to hear "Life on Mt. Olympus." The story beginning Friday will be "The Donkey in the Lion's Skin."
