Loris P. Stout

Loris Polk Stout, 92, of Burlington, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at his home.

Born March 23, 1915, in Howard County, he was the son of Clarence and Mable Polk Stout. The family moved to Burlington Township in 1917. In 1934 he graduated from Burlington High School.

On March 7, 1937, near Burlington, he married Esther Huffer, who survives.

Mr. Stout retired from grain and dairy farming in 1980.

A member of the Burlington First Brethren Church, he attended Sharon Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Burlington Kiwanis Club and served on the Burlington Cemetery Board for several years. He started the first 4-H Club in Burlington Township.

Mr. Stout enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, gardening and traveling.

Surviving with his wife are four children, Allen Stout (wife: Cynthia), Richard Stout (wife: Marlene), Gayle Stout (wife: Diane) and Joyce Webb (husband: Bob), all of near Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Kathy Carter, Katrina Rathbun, Kurt Stout, Todd Stout, Summer Stout, Andrew Stout, Jenniffer Parker, Connie Page, Suzanne Stout, Scott Stout, and Lauren Webb; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carrol Stout (wife: Mary) of Flora.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Neptune Funeral Home, Burlington. The Rev. Kurt Stout and the Rev. James L. Lund will officiate. Burial will be at Burlington Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Burlington Kiwanis Club or to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
