EDUCATION NEWS SALLY KULUPKA of Delphi and WENDY STILLER of Flora have been named to the University of Evansville dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall 2007 semester. KELSIE THORNBURG and MATTHEW MOREHOUSE, seniors at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, are winners of this month's High Five Award, given by News Channel 18. Selection is based on five points of achievement, with an emphasis on effort: Academics, athletics, mental attitude, leadership, and community service. Students are nominated by school administrators or teachers, and are featured for a month on Channel 18. The winners change each month as the award rotates among schools in the Channel 18 viewing area. Kelsie is ranked in the top half of her class and has continued to improve her grades each semester of high school. She has been a French Club officer and Junior Leader officer for two years, and has been in 4-H for three years. Kelsie has participated in wrestling for two years and was wrestling manager for two years. According to her nomination, she is a dependable worker in the school office. She has been active in the Habitat for Humanity program, and helped organize a Habitat for Humanity trip to Louisiana for students during Spring Break. Matthew has been a Top Scholar all four years of high school and ranks in the top ten of his class. He participated in soccer for two years and wrestling two years, and was captain of the wrestling team his freshman year. He is a member of National Honor Society and serves on the school's Attendance Committee. According to his nomination, he is a hardworking student and has a goal of becoming a pharmacist. He volunteers as a junior fireman and has done other volunteer work in Jackson Township. |
