Shake off winter blahs

With the tensions put upon us all by Mother Nature, everyone could use a break. A great escape to somewhere with sunshine, white beaches and recreation would be nice, but the majority of us are unable to make such a pleasure trip.

I would like to offer a suggestion for a night out, closer to home. Carroll High School Drama Club has been hard at work on a new production. Hold open one of the following dates - the evening of March 14 or March 15 or the afternoon of March 16. Why? Carroll Drama Club will present the play, "High School Musical."

This play is one to be enjoyed by the entire family. Call the school for ticket information. Seats are reserved.

The cast is working hard and will give you a wonderful night out. Go, enjoy!

Lowering lakes may help

We've all heard from NIPSCO that their dams are not at fault with the latest flooding. And that their dams are run-ofthe river dams. But they can control the level of the water that is in the lakes.

It seems to me and some others that I have spoken with that if the lakes were lowered during the winter, the flooding might not have been as bad as it was, especially those on Lake Freeman, who have developed a false sense of security because they are located on a lake and not a river.

NIPSCO or whoever is responsible for lake levels should be lowering the levels in winter because hardly anyone uses the lakes in the winter. Maybe it will help in the future. It sure won't hurt.

Reaching out to flood victims

After the severe flooding in north central Indiana last month, I set up a link on my website to important information for victims of the flooding. With a second round of flooding now affecting our area, I want to remind my constituents that my office stands ready to help. I will continue to post important information for victims of the floods on the flooding resources page of my website at http://donnelly.house.gov, and I invite any constituent in need of assistance to contact my office.

I also want to remind flood victims that in order to receive aid from the federal government, you need to register for assistance within 60 days of the issuance of the disaster declaration, which was on Jan. 31. Any new flooding that occurs during the 60-day period will be covered by the existing disaster declaration. Residents of Carroll, Cass, Elkhart, Fulton, Jasper, Marshall, Pulaski, Tippecanoe, and White Counties who wish to register for assistance should call (800) 621-FEMA.
