Hershman honors Rossville FFA team on Indiana Senate floor
Comet staff report

Students from Rossville Middle/Senior High School have added another distinction to their FFA leadership organization.

State Sen. Brandt Hershman (R-Wheatfield) honored the Rossville FFA Livestock Judging Team this week on winning the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo., on the Indiana Senate floor.

Rossville's award-winning team of Jeremy Harshbarger, Jared Huffer, Scott Evans, Torie Schwartz and Coach Mark Douglas were on the Senate floor during Hershman's resolution. Hershman said they "excelled" in each category at the national contest and brought home the school's first title in national livestock judging competition.

"I'm extremely proud," Hershman said as he presented the resolution. "Rossville has been perennially named to Indiana Chamber of Commerce 'best buy' schools. They have repeated success in their ISTEP scores, and the FFA has a long history of success, as was exhibited by these students in Denver recently."

Rossville's students were among 860 FFA and 4-H members competing at the event. Each team was required to evaluate four different species of livestock, including goats, sheep, pigs and cattle. They then had to give oral presentations to officials and explain reasons behind their findings.
