Oracles win wrestling sectional; five are champions

Sectional champs Delphi's Sectional champion wrestling team will compete in the Harrison Regional this weekend. Not only did the team advance, but 12 team members advanced to individual regional competition. The Delphi Oracles have advanced to the Dual Team Regional at Lafayette Harrison High School after winning the sectional Saturday. Senior Donovan Alderman remains undefeated in the 119-pound weight class.

This was the first sectional title for the Oracles since 1994.

"We had told the kids just go out and wrestle hard and good things will happen," said Coach Mike Atwood. "We wrestled well."

The Oracles scored 280 points, with Harrison second with 245. The first and second place teams wrestle the first and second place teams from the Twin Lakes Sectional. Today, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m., in match 1, Logansport vs. Harrison and in match 2, Delphi vs. Winamac. The match winners vie for the championship.

Placing third was Mc- Cutcheon with 198 points. The fourth place team with 190 was Lafayette Jeff and fifth place went to Seeger with 146.

The Oracles sent a gold rush of nine wrestlers to the finals. Champions were: 112 Bob Floyd (39-4), 119 Donovan Alderman (38-0), 125 Aaron Back (27-15), 160 Braden Atwood (40-1) and 285 Wesley Everett ((31-7). Placing second for the Oracles were: 103 Randy McIlrath (16-5), 145 Hayden Peterson (15-15), 171 Shane Evans (29-11), and 189 Brandon Delaney (30-11). Placing third were: 130 Nathan McTigue (26-18) and 152 Tyler Cooper (24-8). Travis Yoakum (24-19) finished fourth at 215 and Cory Smith (20-21) placed sixth.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to Saturday's individual regional.
