Phyllis J. Shoemaker

Phyllis J. Shoemaker, 62, of Rockfield, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her residence.

Born Aug. 6, 1945, in Edmonton, Ky., she was the daughter of Travis and Delphia Lee Clark Shives. Her marriage was on April 12, 1964, in the Camden First Baptist Church to Shorty Shoemaker, who survives.

Mrs. Shoemaker was owner/operator of Phyllis's Styling Salon. She was also coowner of Abigail Peabody's.

She graduated from Camden High School in 1963 and from Fort Wayne International Beauty College in 1964.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delphi and the church's Faith Missionary Circle. She was also a member of the Camden Alumni Association, secretary of the Rockfield Sewer District, and helped to organize the Rockfield Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Mts. Shoemaker enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, traveling with her high school classmates, and serving others.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Pam Garrison of Delphi and Stacy Claxton (husband: Darin) of Russiaville; one sister, Linda Ello (husband: Frank) of Mystic, Conn.; one brother, Larry Shives (wife: Sharon) of Camden; three granddaughters, Kerisa Garrison and MaKayla Garrison, both of Delphi, and Jama Claxton of Russiaville; and one grandson, Keaton Garrison of Delphi.

A son, Jeffery Shoemaker, died in infancy.

Services were held Monday at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, Pastor Bill Glenn officiated. Burial was at Camden Cemetery, Camden.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Delphi.
