Lafayette Fire Dept. addition to benefit surrounding counties
Comet staff report

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security awarded a $100,000 grant to the Lafayette Fire Department to allow emergency responders to train on a larger scale.

Lafayette Fire Department Training Facilities are in the center of District 4, which, in addition to Tippecanoe County includes Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Warren and White counties.

"We are seeking the most effective, efficient and economical approach to fire training," said J. Eric Dietz, executive director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. "Projects like Lafayette's are a common sense approach for firefighters to have access to training capabilities to fulfill their training mission. We are proud of the local cooperation and leadership in developing the training center."

The grant will support the construction of a new building to its existing facilities. The new structure will allow firefighters and other emergency responders from different departments to learn to work together on a larger scale than exists now.
