4-H activities connect fun, friends & learning together In addition to attending meetings with their local clubs, 4-H'ers can participate in several other activities. These activities include: Junior Leaders - 4-H'ers, grades 7-12, can become a Junior Leader. Junior Leaders assist the Adult 4-H Leaders in their local club. Plus, they participate in a countywide Junior Leader Club. The Junior Leader Club meets on the third Monday of each month. The monthly programs are planned by the officers. Future programs include: service projects, team building, Purdue basketball game, miniature golf, Madam Carroll and fair activities. Share-the-Fun - The Share-the-Fun contest is 4-H's talent contest. Individuals, groups or clubs can develop acts to perform in the Carroll County 4-H Share-the-Fun contest to be held May 2. Winners in the group act, curtain nonmusical act and curtain musical act will be selected to represent Carroll County at the Area 8 contest. Conservation Day Camp - Conservation Day Camp will be held on June 12 at France Park in Cass County. 4-H'ers will have the opportunity to participate in several activities throughout the day including finding animal tracks, hiking, leaf collection, and outdoor cooking. Demonstration/Public Speaking Contests - 4-H'ers are always encouraged to develop their public speaking skills by giving talks or demonstrations at their club meetings. The 2008 Public Speaking theme is: "Mastering Life Skills Through 4-H." Demonstration categories are: livestock; color, texture, design; foods; animals for pleasure; mechanical science safety; natural resources; plants; general; team; and create a video. 4-H'ers will participate in the County contest before advancing to the State Contest. State Trips - 4-H'ers have the opportunity to meet 4- H'ers from across the state when they participate in workshops at Purdue and around the State. A sampling of the potential workshops include: Science Workshops - June 11 - 13 (Aerospace, Ambassador, Animal Science, Computers, Entomology - Forensics, Food Science, Engineering Science, Mission to Mars, Natural Resources and Plant Science); Electric Workshop - June 20-22; State 4-H Band - June 21-23; State 4-H Chorus - June 21-25; Round- Up - June 23- 25; Junior Leader Conference - June 17- 20. Fashion Revue - 4-H'ers in the Sewing and Consumer Clothing projects model their outfits in Fashion Revue. Winners of the six senior division categories have the opportunity to model in the State Fashion Revue contest. The county judging will be on July 2 with the show being held on July 13. Bicycle Rodeo - 4-H'ers take a written test on bicycle safety. Plus, they demonstrate their street driving skills while riding their bike through a course. 4-H Camp Program in June - Carroll County 4-H members, grades 3-6, can attend 4-H Camp at Camp Tecumseh YMCA Outdoor Center near Brookston from June 4-6. 4-H camp is for 4- H members from Carroll, Cass, White, Clinton, Howard, Miami, Newton, Pulaski and Tippecanoe counties. Some of the camp classes include: crafts, canoeing, archery, swimming and nature. |
