Carroll approves $16,600 computer hardware purchase

Carroll School Board approved a technology update at its Jan. 15 meeting.

On recommendation of technology coordinator Angie Veach, the corporation will purchase two new servers and other computer equipment for a total of $16,637.60.

Superintendent John Sayers said the cost will be paid out of the Capital Projects fund.

Textbook adoption committees for English/language arts were named as follows: Jr.-Sr. high school - staff members Debbie Duff, Marsha Eckert, Stacy Brazel, Ginny Rusch- Mills, Danna Bonfiglio, Pat Spence, and foreign language teachers Rhoda Kratz and Elizabeth Rose, along with parent members Michelle Strawcutter, Erika Eller, Becky Taylor, Kim Forgey, Kim Bordner, Jennifer Ritchey, Candy Kauffman, Maria Lewis, Margie Spray, Angela Ayres, and Alice Bowers. Carroll Elementary School - Staff members Caren Johnson, Nancy Sabatini, Karen Stankard, Linda Mylet, Carrie Pickard, Beth Moore, Kellie Strong, Natalie McQuade, and Kathy Shuler. Parents will be requested to be part of the committee in February.

A conference request was approved for the textbook adoption committee, including interested parents on the committee, to attend the Textbook Caravan Jan. 23 in West Lafayette. Various textbooks from different companies will be on display.

Also approved was a request by CES principal Carolyn O'Connell to attend the IPLA Winter Conference Jan. 28 and 29 in Indianapolis.

Sayers announced the retirement of guidance secretary Carolyn Gilbert, after 30 years with the school corporation. Sayers said she has been a valuable employee.

Tracy Miller was named as guidance secretary, and Carla Richardson was named as junior high swim coach.

The board authorized the president and secretary to sign documents for a previously approved general obligation loan.

The board declared junior-senior high school drama sets as surplus equipment and will contact those who have expressed an interest in them.

School bus bids were taken under advisement until the next meeting.

The junior-senior high school has a competition among sports teams each season to see which teams have the highest grade point average.

Principal Charles Huckstep announced that at midseason, the highest GPA at the high school was achieved by the girls' basketball team, with 3.827. Second place achiever is varsity swimming with 3.143. For the junior high, in first place is the girls seventh grade basketball team with 3.503, followed by the eighth grade boys' basketball team with 3.443.

The next board meeting has been changed to Monday, Feb. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Administration Building.

The board scheduled a work session for 2 to 7 p.m. prior to its Feb. 19 meeting to talk about policy and Capital Projects plans.
